Election Notice

The annual election for next year’s Rockdale PTA Officers takes place at the regular meeting on March 18, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. All persons who have been members for at least 30 days are eligible to vote and/or put their name forward for President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer, or Historian. Please attend and help set the PTA up for success in the 2026-2027 school year!

The Nominating Committee is up and running! The committee works to identify candidates for next year’s PTA board. Help them out by putting your name forward! If you are interested in or curious about joining Rockdale PTA leadership for the 2026-2027 school year, fill out this form or simply send an email to nominating@rockdalepta.org.

Elected Positions

These are the positions that are up for election at the March 18, 2026 PTA meeting: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian. They are all Board positions with active involvement in PTA programs and events. Express interest now by contacting the Nominating Committee or volunteer from the floor on March 18, 2026.

Elections are supported by the Nominating Committee. The committee works to identify candidates for next year’s PTA board. Help them out by putting your name forward! If you are interested in or curious about joining Rockdale PTA leadership for the 2026-2027 school year, fill out this form or simply send an email to nominating@rockdalepta.org. The Nominating Committee will present its report, including a slate of recommended candidates for the five elected officer positions, on February 18, 2026. Please reach out to the Nominating Committee ASAP so they can answer your questions and/or include you on the slate. Other board positions, and any officer positions that remain empty, will be filled by the Board-elect after March 18, 2026. It is never too late to volunteer for an open position!   

  • President

    Great for people who have strong people skills and have been an active member of the Rockdale PTA, with a good understanding of its mission, purpose, and operations. Prior PTA Board experience is helpful, but not required.

    Official duties include

    Running all monthly Board and Association meetings, including agendas 

    Meeting regularly with Principal and staff

    Attending monthly Highlands Council meetings 

    Signing checks, contracts, other legal documents

    Representing Rockdale PTA at official functions, events 

    Ex-officio member of most Standing Committees and other committees

    Delegate to annual California State PTA Convention

  • Vice President

    Great for people who want to be involved in a big way but don’t want to run the show (yet, maybe). The VP does a little bit of everything and helps where help is needed. Prior PTA Board experience is a bonus, but not required.

    Official duties include

    Standing in for & assisting the President as necessary

    Serving as Membership Chairperson

    Signing checks

  • Secretary

    Great for dependable people who are interested in helping the PTA and want to listen and learn. The Secretary attends Board and PTA meetings, taking notes and preparing official minutes for the meetings. It is a good position for a first-time Board member.

    Official duties include:

    Drafting official minutes for board and association meetings

    Co-signing documents with president: authorizations for payment, approved bylaws

    Recent Secretaries: Mallory Casey, Bonnie Fisher, Caitlin Weisberg, Dana Higuera-Reyes, Nicole White

  • Treasurer

    Great for responsible people who yearn for the days of balanced checkbooks. The Treasurer ensures that the PTA finances are in order and the bills get paid. Prior PTA Board experience is a bonus, but not required. 

    Official duties include:

    Paying all PTA bills and reimbursements as authorized by board or association

    Preparing monthly income and expense reports and an annual financial report

    Ensuring that taxes and reports required by PTA bylaws, insurance or federal and state governments are completed and submitted by the due dates

    Chairing the budget committee and assisting in the preparation and presentation of the annual budget

  • Historian

    Great for people who believe in celebrating the school community and preserving institutional knowledge. The historian keeps track of the year’s programs / events and records volunteer hours for the association. It is a good position for a first-time Board member.

    Official duties include:

    Preparing annual report of volunteer hours, for submission to California PTA at the end of the school year

    Documenting and photographing PTA programs and events throughout the school year.

Chairperson Positions

Chair positions are board positions with full voting rights, but they are not elected - they are appointed by the incoming president and board. Note that Hospitality Coordinator is not currently a board chair, but could be in the future.

  • Arts Chairperson

    The Arts Chairperson shall inform and educate the PTA membership, school community, and community at large about the importance of an integrated arts curriculum in the education of the whole child. They promote and encourage participation in the National PTA Reflections program, in conjunction with its chairman/coordinator and they may seek partnerships with professional arts organizations in the community to better coordinate arts education, programs and cultural enrichment services for all students.

  • Communications Chairperson

    The Communications Chair helps schedule and plan content for regular email communication with the PTA membership based on the full calendar of school events and holidays. The Communications team needs volunteers with graphic design skills, an interest in marketing, or time to manage email marketing software.

  • DEI Chairperson

    Helps the organization ensure that all of our efforts are meeting the needs of all of our students and that programs are inclusive of our entire community. May host or seek learning opportunities, coordinate with PTA leaders and survey community members to understand their needs and invite their feedback and participation.

  • Fundraising Chairperson

    Oversees our fundraising efforts to meet our annual budget, coordinating with chairpersons for specific events like Restaurant FUNraisers, Spare Change, Read-a-thon, Walk-a-thon, etc.

  • Greening Committee Chairperson

    This committee is working year round on projects as they come, including grants, site improvements and fundraising for greening and cooling for our students and campus community.

  • Legislative Advocacy Chairperson

    As local officers of the largest grassroots child advocacy organization in the state, PTA legislative advocacy chairs are responsible for demonstrating leadership on children’s issues at the local level by educating PTA members, community members and elected officials about PTA’s issues of concern and legislative priorities and goals.

  • Volunteer Chairperson

    Recruits and assigns members to short term volunteer opportunities and coordinates in kind donations, as needed.

  • Hospitality Coordinator

    Recruits and coordinates members and resources for PTA sponsored community events like the Welcome Picnic, Teacher/Staff Appreciation Events, Ice Cream/Hot Dog Socials, Movie Nights and other in person or online events.

    Note: this position is not currently a board position.
